Luxury passenger ship stranded in Northeast Greenland awaits rescue

SEPTEMBER 14: A luxury passenger ship carrying over 200 passengers and crew, the majority of whom are Australians, got stranded due to the muddy seabed in Northeast Greenland. According to Bloomberg, the luxury passenger ship that ran aground in Northeast Greenland made two unsuccessful attempts to free itself from the muddy seabed using the tides. The Joint Arctic Forces of the Danish military announced that they have been patrolling a wide area with dog sleds, and teams from their Sirius unit visited the ship to confirm the safety of the passengers. It was noted that the nearest ship that could assist in the rescue efforts is a Danish navy vessel off the southwest coast of Greenland, and the redirected navy ship is expected to arrive in the region on September 15th. Local authorities stated that they are on standby with a ship in case the need for Icelandic Coast Guard assistance arises. Local reports in the news indicated that several individuals on the mentioned ship who tested positive for COVID-19 have been isolated. The luxury passenger ship Ocean Explorer, carrying over 200 passengers and crew, the majority of whom are Australians, is known to charge more than $33,000 per person for accommodation. In the area where the ship ran aground, there is no human habitation except for meteorological station personnel and a small unit of Denmark's Arctic Special Forces.
