Australian Cricketers - Guests Of The Maharajah

An Australian cricket team organised by Frank Tarrant toured Ceylon and India in the winter of 1935-36, considered to be a 'secondary tour' as the Australians were also touring in South Africa at that time. In this photograph the Australians are posing for a unique team photograph with their host, the Majarajah of Patiala, and his team before their match in Patiala. The Maharajah is wearing an Australian team blazer, whilst the Australians are all wearing Indian blazers. Australia were captained by Jack Ryder, who is seated in the front row alongside the Maharajah (right), 15th January 1936. The match ended in a draw.
