The Nigerian government formally handed over the oil rich Bakassi Peninsula to the Cameroonian governament in compliance with the ruling of the International Court of Justice that ceded the territory to Cameroon ending 13 years of bitter feud between Abuja and Yaounde. Nigerian authorities have allocated a virgin expanse of land in Itang, near Calabar, capital of the southeastern Cross River State, to those who wish to relocate to Nigeria.
