The Game Of Thrones Effect On The Northern Irish Economy
BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND - AUGUST 13: Lauren Wethers, a goldsmith at Steensons jewellers in Glenarm, puts the finishing touches to a Game of Thrones Dire Wolf sterling silver brooch pin on August 13, 2015 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. According to recent audited figures from Northern Ireland Screen, the HBO produced fantasy adventure television series Game of Thrones has contributed an estimated £110m to the Northern Ireland economy. Many local companies have profited from providing services during production creating more than 900 full-time and 5,700 part-time jobs in the process. Due to the popularity of the series various locations highlighted on screen have become tourist attractions around the province. Steensons jewellers, a local business, make the costume jewellery for characters to wear on screen and are now licensed to sell a replica range of items to the public.
