The Schloss Weimar is from the 7th century, in 1535 it was reconstructed and turned into a Renaissance Palace and named 'Hornstein'. In 1626 under Wilhelm, Duke of Saxe-Weimar it was further modified and hence called 'Wilhelmsburg'. Since 1923 an art museum is located inside the Schloss Weimar.
