UNITED STATES - AUGUST 16: Synchronized Swimming, or Water Ballet, features underwater and surface routines based on both aesthetics and precision. These routines require extraordinary breath control, stamina, and endurance, as well as excellent timing and superior underwater movement skills. Ester Williams, probably the most famous swimmer of her time, popularized synchronized swimming through her appearances in popular movies from the '40s and '50s.
