New York City Approves Congestion Pricing

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – April 9: Vehicles travel through Queens Blvd. in Long Island City in the borough of Queens as the MTA approved a controversial NYC congestion pricing plan, which would charge most cars $15 to drive into midtown and lower Manhattan during rush hour, on April 9, 2024 in New York City. New York City is the first city in the United States to implement this type of system of tolling, and the revenue will finance capital upgrades to the city's transit infrastructure. The initiative is anticipated to bring in $1 billion a year. Commuters are encouraged to use public transportation as often as possible, including the NYC subway and buses, Metro North, Amtrak, Long Island Railroad (LIRR), NJ Transit, etc. (Footage by Tomas Abad/Getty Images)
