AfD Co-Head Alice Weidel Dismisses Assistant Roland Hartwig Following Meeting With Neo-Nazis

BERLIN, GERMANY - JANUARY 16: Cars drive past election campaign posters of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) political party ahead of a partial redo of the 2021 German federal election in some Berlin voting districts on January 16, 2024 in Berlin, Germany. The AfD is under heavy public scrutiny following the recent revelation that Roland Hartwig, a former AfD Bundestag parliamentarian and until recently an advisor to AfD co-leader Alice Weidel, had taken part in a meeting last year with neo-Nazis, including Austrian far-right extremist Martin Sellner, at a villa near Potsdam. According to the investigative group Correctiv, participants at the meeting discussed how to possibly introduce legislative measures to enable the mass expulsion of immigrants from Germany, as well as German citizens with immigrant roots and German citizens who have helped refugees. News of the meeting has prompted renewed calls for banning the AfD. The AfD announced January 15 that Weidel has dismissed Hartwig. (Footage by Sean Gallup/Getty Images)
