SPEECH - Women Rally For “National Equal Pay Day” In New York

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – MARCH 12: (SPEECH) (Part 1 of 2) Guest speaker NYC Mayor Eric Adams says, “Years of years of this abuse, trust me, it's connected to some of the healthcare crises that we are facing, and we often ignore that” as women rights advocates and local elected officials rally on the steps of City Hall in downtown Manhattan for “National Equal Pay Day” on March 12, 2024 in New York City. New York City Council’s Women’s Caucus, PowHer NY Host, and members of CWA Local 1180 (Communications Workers of America) rally in solidarity wearing red on National Equal Pay Day to call for a collection of bills and resolutions that promote more equitable pay for women across New York City. Advocates continue to call on elected officials to prioritize the continued pay inequality between men and women and bring the gap of “equal pay for women for equal work” closer. Speakers also spoke about pay discrimination based on “race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, disability, and age…” as stated by the EEOC the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
