Senator Schumer First Floor Statement After Judge Gorsuch...

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer says that the Senate has a duty to exhaustively review the record of Supreme Court nominee judge Neil Gorsuch of the Tenth Circuit, that Democrats will insist on a rigorous fear process, that there will be 60 votes for confirmation, that bipartisan support should be a prerequisite, that those who suggest the false choice of invoking the nuclear option are dead wrong, that a different standard for Gorsuch would mean a problem for the nominee and not the Senate, that a solution would not be to change the rules of the Senate, but the change the nominee who would obtain 60 votes. Schumer describes two reasons for being in a New World, the Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts, and the first days of the Trump administration as having less respect for the rule of law than any in recent history, challenging the Constitution which puts a special burden on Gorsuch to be independent.
