Collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, Washington State, 1940

Tacoma Narrows, Washington State, USA-November 7, 1940: Opened barely four months ago, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapsed on this day. The cause was a wind with 42 miles per hour speed. There were no casualties except for a dog that was trapped in the car seen in the image. A man (seen in the image with a pipe) risked his life to rescue the animal but the frightened animal wouldn't leave the vehicle. The image has been improved using digital technologies. Contrast has been enhanced. The old version was re-encoded to a new MOV. HD container in high quality.
