Tacoma Narrows, Washington State, USA-November 7, 1940: Opened barely four months ago, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapsed on this day. The cause was a wind with 42 miles per hour speed. There were no casualties except for a dog that was trapped in the car seen in the image. A man (seen in the image with a pipe) risked his life to rescue the animal but the frightened animal wouldn't leave the vehicle. The image has been improved using digital technologies.
